AI use checker
Can I use AI for this?
Describe what you want to do. You'll get a plain answer based on a sample AI policy for a nonprofit, with the rules it comes from.
Check a use
The sample policy
Eight rules, written for a team that isn't technical. Every answer above points back to these.
- R1
Keep personal info out
Don't put names, contact details, donor or client records, health, immigration or money details about real people into an AI tool.
- R2
Use approved tools
Use the organization's approved AI workspace, not a free personal account.
- R3
A person checks it
AI output is a draft. A person checks facts, numbers, names and tone before anything goes out.
- R4
Be open about it
Say when AI wrote most of something the public or a funder will read.
- R5
People decide about people
Don't use AI to decide who gets hired, funded, served or reported. It can help draft or sort, but a person makes the call.
- R6
Respect other people's work
Don't paste in contracts, confidential documents or someone else's unpublished work.
- R7
Check translations and plain-language versions
When AI translates or simplifies something, a fluent speaker or someone it's for reviews it first.
- R8
When in doubt, ask first
If a use isn't clearly covered, check with the AI lead before you start.
